Master's degree in Teacher Training in Secondary and Upper Secondary School Education, Vocational Training and Language Education

The Master’s degree in Secondary and Upper Secondary School Education, Vocational Training and Language Education is a necessary accreditation to exercise as a teacher in a public, state-subsidised private or private secondary school. The master’s degree is aimed at students who hold a diploma, bachelor’s degree, engineering degree or degree and wish to work as teachers in secondary schools. To access the different specialisations of the master’s degree offered by the UdL it will be necessary to be in possession of a suitable qualification or that corresponds to the teaching specialisation that you want to study, in accordance with the resolutions of the Department of Education for the interim exchange.

With a total of 60 ECTS credits, the subject structure is articulated to provide basic training for teaching at the secondary levels of the education system. Therefore, future teachers in compulsory secondary and upper secondary school education, vocational training and language teaching are professionally trained with teaching and psycho-pedagogical skills specific to the teaching environment to which they will be assigned.

The Master’s degree in Secondary and Upper Secondary School Education, Vocational Training and Language Education of the Faculty of Education, Psychology and Social Work is offered in blended mode where:

• 60% is delivered in person
• 40% is taught synchronous and/or asynchronous online

The master's degree programme can be completed full-time (one year) or part-time over two years (see information on the part-time programme).

The specialisations are an itinerary or curricular intensification offered in the master’s degree and obtained by passing 3 subjects between 5 and 12 credits and a curricular internship of 14 credits. The following is the offer of specialisations of the Master’s degree in Secondary and Upper Secondary School Education, Vocational Training and Language Education of the Faculty of Education, Psychology and Social Work of the University of Lleida:

• Specialisation in Geography and History: aimed at students interested in learning and teaching Geography and History to adolescents and adults. To access this specialisation, it is necessary to have prior training related to this area of knowledge. This specialisation enables students to acquire the professional profile of a Geography and History teacher.
• Specialisation in Physical Education: aimed at students interested in teaching sport and physical activity. This specialisation enables students to acquire the professional profile of a Physical Education teacher.
• Specialisation in Foreign Languages (English): aimed at students interested in the teaching and didactics of English in secondary and upper secondary schools, vocational training and language schools. This specialisation enables students to acquire the professional profile of an English teacher.

Each specialisation offers 30 places, except for Physical Education, which offers 60 places.

The professions for which graduates of this master’s degree are qualified  are those of teachers of Compulsory Secondary and Upper Secondary Education, Vocational Training and Language Education (ORDER ECI/3858/2007).

Graduates are primarily trained to provide formal education to adolescents and adults (from the age of 12 onwards). The main employment sectors are:

• Secondary and upper secondary schools, vocational education and training and language schools
• Adult education centres
• Specialized publishing sector
• Management of extracurricular activities for cultural and service organisations
• Residential care centres for children and young people under state care
